Talk Story with Ely Garcia

Welcome to this month’s Talk Story, a blog series where we shine the spotlight on one of our team members at Timbers Kauaʻi. This month we are going to be learning more about our Concierge extraordinaire, Ely Garcia Jr.

Ely has been at Timbers for just six months and is already well loved by our Owners and Guests. He certainly makes an impression with his effusive personality and his beaming smile. Ely grew up right here on the Garden Isle, and we are so happy to welcome him to the team at Timbers. We sat down with Ely to talk story and learn more about what brought him to us.

What is your “kuleana” (job) at Timbers Kaua‘i /Hōkūala and how long have you been part of the ‘ohana?
I was born and raised here on the east side of island of Kauaʻi. I graduated in 2008 from Kapaʻa high school. (Imua Warriors!!!) I became a part of this amazing ʻohana in April.

In your opinion, what makes Timbers Kaua‘i at Hōkūala special or unique?
In my opinion, what makes us special/unique here at Timbers Kauaʻi has got to be the emphasis of ʻohana (family.) Everyone from our owners to the staff on property, make you feel at home. We always make sure that you are well taken care of. “Sometimes you wannah go, where everybody knows your name!” (From the TV show, Cheers)

Describe Kaua‘i in one word.
No ka ʻoi (The best)

When not working, what is your favorite hobby?
Usually when I am off, I’m either playing golf, or playing music. I love music and playing the piano!

What does Aloha mean to you?
Aloha to me is all about unconditionally caring for people regardless of the situation. Showing the aloha spirit to everyone that I meet and encounter is important to me because I was taught at a young age to treat everyone the way you would want to be treated, which is with respect.

What is your favorite Hawaiian food?
I love squid luau with some pipikaula and lomi lomi salmon. And, you cannot forget about the poi!! So ono!!

What is a fun fact most people don’t know about you?
I was once an aspiring actor and was an extra in the Disney movie “Jungle Cruise.”
