We are so happy to welcome our new General Manager, Chris Gampon to the Timbers Kaua‘i at Hōkūala family. Chris was born and raised on Kaua‘i, and joined the team in March of this year. Please join us in a warm aloha and welcome to Chris as we learn more about him in this month’s Talk Story.

Aloha to me is kindness, caring, appreciation, and energy that is shared without regard to who, where, or when.

– Chris Gampon, General Manager

What is your kuleana (job) at Timbers Kaua‘i and how long have you been part of the ‘ohana?
My job title is General Manager. I see my kuleana to be a caretaker of this special place that has become Timbers Kauaʻi. This includes the current and ever-growing facilities; the beautiful landscapes; our relationship with our Owners; our relationship with our host culture; our relationship with our community; and most importantly, the well-being of our host employees.

In your opinion, what makes Timbers Kaua‘i at Hōkūala special or unique?
I liken Timbers at Hōkūala to the treasure at the end of the rainbow. The buildings and landscaping are exquisite. The location and views are stunning. In that way, this place is unique. Our hosts are what make Timbers “special.” They are the rainbow. They shine, bring smiles, and are the multi-faceted link that brings owners and guests to Timbers Kauaʻi.

What are the events you are most looking forward to this year?
I’m still experiencing all of the wonderful events that take place here at Timbers. So far, I’ve really enjoyed Owner events. Owners at Timbers Kauaʻi have welcomed me very graciously.

Describe Kaua‘i in one word.

When not working, what is your favorite hobby?
I love traveling and photography.

What does aloha mean to you?
Aloha to me is kindness, caring, appreciation, and energy that is shared without regard to who, where, or when.

What is your favorite Hawaiian food?
I enjoy pork lau lau.

Where is your favorite spot on the property?
My favorite spot is on the lanai just past the reception area.  From there, you can watch ships and boats come and go; you can watch the outrigger canoe teams paddling; you can watch humpback whales spout and breach; you can see golfers challenged by the 15th hole; you can see the stunning view of the Ninini Lighthouse; and on a clear day, you can see Oʻahu.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m a longtime fan of the original Japanese Kikaida TV show.  I have the series on DVD.

Mahalo Chris for taking the time to talk story with us!
