Meet the ‘Ohana - The Reynolds

For Dan and Susan, Timbers Kaua‘i is more than a place to vacation—it’s a home away from home built around family, friendship, and the spirit of aloha. After decades of visiting Hawai‘i and a lifelong love for Kaua‘i, they found at Timbers the community, setting, and lifestyle they had been searching for, becoming owners in 2020.

Question: What is your favorite part about being an owner at Timbers Kaua’i?
Answer: There are so many things! The first thing that comes to mind is that it truly feels like you’re part of a family. We’ve gotten to know so many of the employees and owners over the years, and every time we come back, it’s wonderful to catch up, hear about everyone’s families and kids, and meet new people. We’ve even become close with other owners and find ourselves planning our visits around seeing each other.

It really feels like a home away from home. During COVID, we were able to spend even more time here and get to know everyone on a more personal level, and those relationships have continued to grow. And at Timbers Kaua‘i, we have everything we need: the pool, tennis and pickleball, the restaurant, the golf course, and 450 acres to explore and enjoy. It’s really all of those things together—the people, the sense of community, and everything the resort offers—that make it so special for us.

Question: Can you tell me about your experience with our Timbers Reciprocity Program?
Answer: We’ve used it several times! We’ve stayed at Esperanza in Mexico many times, as well as in Italy, which was amazing, and at Rancho Valencia in San Diego. It’s been so easy to use, and we especially love the wishlist feature—it notifies us when a property we’d like to visit becomes available for exchange. It’s worked really well for us, and we’ve had such great experiences with it!

Question: Which is your favorite TRP property?
Answer: It depends! Esperanza has been our go-to because it’s convenient and easy to get to from where we live. Italy was amazing and a wonderful place to combine with visits to other parts of the country. We spent some time there with other owners, which made the experience even more special, and the property itself is absolutely stunning! But, overall, Esperanza is fantastic, we enjoy going back.

Question: Everyone has a why, what brought you to own with us in Kaua’i?
Answer: We’ve been coming to Hawaii for 35 years, and Kaua‘i has always been our favorite. We had been looking for a place like this for a long time, so when we discovered Timbers Kaua‘i, it truly resonated with our lifestyle.

We originally stayed at the Hyatt, and some friends suggested we check out Timbers. When we met Debbie, she showed us around and arranged for us to come back in October. We spent time with other Timbers owners, participated in activities, and the more time we spent here, the more we fell in love with the property. We knew this was the place we had been looking for—we had to own here!

We purchased in Maliula and eventually fell in love with Kaiholo, so we decided to upgrade. What we love is that we have a place of our own without having to worry about the maintenance and upkeep, while still enjoying all the amenities of a first-class resort. It’s truly the best of both worlds.

We’ve been to all the other islands and visited many different places, but there’s really nothing like Timbers Kaua‘i. From the people and the location to the amenities, it’s five-star across the board. And after all these years, coming back and seeing all the familiar faces makes it feel like home.
