To close out 2019 and welcome 2020, Timbers Kauai – Ocean Club & Residences hosted a New Year’s Eve Dinner and Party Under the Stars from Hualani’s Restaurant.

The New Year’s Eve menu featured fare infused with flavors and produce harvested from the Farm at Hokuala, as well as a sophisticated take on island staples, such as ceviche and ahi tuna. Craft cocktails and a curated wine menu rounded out the lively and festive meal—all complemented by live music from a member of the Timbers Kauai ohana, activities guide Gaither Rosser.

After the dining extravaganza, partygoers poured out onto Hualani’s lawn for more live music from seven-piece band NAKZ Music, as well as dancing under the stars, and finally another signature Hawaiian festivity: fire dancing.

Fire dancing in Hawaii traces its roots back to the Samoan knife dancing tradition that began as a pre-battle ritual for warriors. Legend has it, fire became involved in 1946 when a Samoan-American Uluao “Freddie” Letuli was inspired to light his machete on fire with fuel-soaked towels after watching a fire-eater and baton twirler perform at a San Francisco convention. Since then, the practice has continued to awe visitors to the islands and is the highlight of many a luau.

The 2019 Party Under the Stars epitomized not only Timbers Kauai’s commitment to creating lifelong memories for Owners and their guests—one of the leading reasons Owners choose to own with Timbers Resorts—but also to infusing Owners’ experiences with a unique sense of place.

When asked to recount special moments at Timbers Kauai, one Owner remembered celebrating “our 23rd wedding anniversary on our first visit as new Owners” and “a  surprise birthday party from the staff that brought tears to my eyes—truly celebrated life with our Hawaiian Ohana!”

“We love the island, have friends on island, and get together with friends who stay at different locations while we are there,” said another. “My son and daughter-in-law visited us at Timbers Kauai this past January. Sixty-one days and counting, until our next stay at Hokuala!”

In 2019, nearly 70 percent of Timbers Resorts Owners polled said ownership has provided them the opportunity to “create a lasting memory with loved ones.”

One Owner said simply: “It’s just been a great place to spend time with family and friends.”

“We have created family traditions built over many years,” responded another. “We come back every year. That is the most important part.”
