Originally from Marin County, California, the Leslies have made Timbers Kaua’i their second home. Their story is filled with adventure, discovery, and a deep love for the island.

Roots in the Islands

For Timi Leslie, Kaua’i almost feels like coming home. Having spent much of her childhood on Oahu, she is no stranger to Hawai‘i. Her husband Jeff, however, was introduced to the island in 1997 when Timi suggested a trip to hike the stunning Kalalau Trail on the Nāpali Coast. As they scaled rugged peaks and marveled at the spectacular blue horizon, they were hooked. From that moment, Kaua’i became a regular getaway for their family – a place to forge connections with each other and share treasured memories.

Finding Timbers Kaua'i

The Leslies’ journey to Timbers started, as many great adventures do, on a seemingly ordinary day. While running a regular errand, Timi noticed ads for Timbers. Curiosity piqued, she and Jeff decided to follow directional signs to the resort – a path that led them to a fresh meal at Hualani’s and, eventually, to a life-changing decision. By 2021, the Leslies were proud members of the Timbers Kaua’i ‘Ohana, solidifying their love for the island with a home of their own.

A Warm Welcome, Every Time

One of the things the Leslies cherish most about Timbers is the sense of family. “The staff are like family. They are always happy to see us when we arrive. The staff knows our preferences, what we enjoy doing, and are always happy to help ensure we have a smooth experience.” Every arrival to the island is a blend of relaxation and routine for the family. Their first day usually involves settling in – collecting their car from storage, grabbing groceries, and if time allows, hitting the golf course.

After getting settled, the Leslies have a tried and tested list of “must-do” activities:

  • Golfing at Hōkūala – With such proximity to the Ocean Course, a round of golf is almost a given.
  • Beach Days – While they are thrilled to visit any of the island’s beaches, Hanalei is their top pick, closely followed by Anini and Kalihiwai.
  • Volleyball at Kalapaki Beach – Who can resist friendly competition in paradise?
  • Hiking – Hiking drew the family to Hawai’i in 1997, so they always value finding new trails and rediscovering favorite paths.
  • Shopping and Poke – From boutique shopping to indulging in fresh poke, they make the most of local offerings.
  • Water Sports – Snorkeling, surfing, paddleboarding, fishing — if it involves the ocean, they’re in.

As for a favorite time of year? To the Leslies, every season has its charms. “We don’t really have a favorite time of year,” they say, “it’s all great.” Summer is reliably warm and dry, perfect for endless beach days. Shoulder seasons, with their quieter crowds, are a peaceful escape. Each visit, regardless of the season, holds new memories and experiences.
