Light On!

On December 6, Timbers Kauai celebrated the holiday season by participating in one of the island’s premier events, the Lights on Rice Parade. The resort was honored to be involved in the 23rd annual event by designing a float and walking alongside the vibrant display to hand out candy to the local onlookers.

“Building the float allowed a great team-building opportunity for our team members, as well as a sense of pride for Timbers Kauai,” said Timbers Kauai Human Resources Manager Jennifer Tone. “We were honored to represent where we work by walking in the parade.”

The Lights on Rice parade is part of an entire series of festive holiday events at the Kauai Historic County Building, located less than three miles from the resort. The free events, which are open to the public, run December 6 through December 28, and on Friday and Saturday evenings, invite visitors to view a magical indoor display and take photos with Santa.

This year’s event features the theme “Santa’s Gone Kauaian,” with a focus on sustainability through trash-to-treasure art installations along with unique event classics such as the SPAM Can Tree and Surfin’ Santa.

The event—founded in 1997 by local artist Elizabeth Freeman—is produced by volunteers, and what started as 400 attendees has now grown to over 4,000. In fact, this year, two news stations traveled from Honolulu to join in the festivities and to promote the event, which has recently been described by Hawaii.com as “truly a reflection of Kauai’s Spirit of Aloha.”
